This week Cabo was awarded a surface drilling contract by BerAlb Sh A, part of the Ekin Maden Group, for its Karma Mine project in Albania. This contract is one of the first projects approved by the Albanian Government since it changed its mining laws two years ago.
However, this is much more significant than the 3,500 metre drill program itself would seem to indicate. As much as this drill program is a feather in the cap for Cabo’s Albania Branch in Tirana, what is perhaps more significant is the relationship the branch is building with the Ekin Maden Group. This Group is headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, and is one of the big players in mining for that region of the world. A strong relationship with the Group will give Cabo Albania a strategic gateway into the whole region.
As the only full-time international drilling company in Albania, Cabo is dedicated to building its business in an organic fashion. The company has now trained its first Albanian driller from the ground up and is committed to continuing that practice.
Terry Aimone, the general manager for Cabo Albania & Spain is not only committed to training more local workers, he is also strongly committed to workplace health & safety as well as environmental awareness. Terry views this contract as an opportunity to demonstrate Cabo’s commitment in a visible and concrete way.
With the growing success of its geographically diverse operations, Cabo Drilling continues to position itself to weather the fluctuations that are inevitable in any given local market.
